Michael Mooney, Executive Director

Michael has been with Manuels River since 2013, originally as Centre Manager and has now transitioned into Executive Director. Michael is the former Economic Director of the Avalon Gateway Regional Economic Development and taught engineering and chemistry at the Marine Institute and the College of the North Atlantic. He has also worked at non-profits and in industry and has worked in Canada, the US, China, and Cyprus. Michael holds a degree in computer  engineering and a Master’s in IT education.


Jillian Whittle, Executive Assistant

Jillian is our Executive Assistant extraordinaire. Jillian holds a diploma in Business Administration with a concentration in Marketing and has worked for many years in an administrative capacity in many different industries. With her hands in just about every aspect of the organization, she can usually be found in the executive office keeping things organized. Jillian is from St. Johns, and now lives in CBS. Her favourite part of the job is the great team we have here!


Alicia Legge, Admissions and Gift Store Manager

Alicia is the friendly face at our Front Desk and brings in the most beautiful, locally crafted products for our gift store. Alicia joined the team in 2015 after working as Education Coordinator and Executive Director at Planned Parenthood NL and for many years in retail as well. Alicia is originally from St. John’s but now lives in CBS right near the Centre and loves being able to walk to work on the trail.


Gillian Davidge, Education Manager

Using her background in physical geography, environmental science, and education, Gillian worked at The Rooms, as well as the old Newfoundland and Labrador Science Centre, before joining us here at Manuels River as our Education Manager. She enjoys exploring outdoors as often as possible and has had a love for trilobites ever since she was first introduced to them over 30 years ago.



Eleanor Power, Lead Science Interpreter

Eleanor Power is a former Primary/Elementary teacher with NLESD as well as a yoga teacher and life-long educator. She started here as a Camp Leader. Now as Lead Science Interpreter, she leads school programs, exhibit tours, hikes, Young Scientist, and more. Eleanor is originally from Paradise, NL and her favourite part of the job is spending time in nature and learning something new every day!

Rod Taylor, Lead Science Interpreter

Rod is a paleontologist who specialized on fossil crustaceans for his Ph.D. and graptolites for his M.Sc. (at MUN) but these days talks trilobites most of the time. Rod can usually be found teaching school programs, leading tours, demonstrating our stream table, studying our fossil collection, or developing a new program. Rod is originally from Chamberlains, CBS, and his favourite part of the job is talking about science every day!


Sydney Greene, Weekend Lead

Sydney is our Weekend Lead and graphic design guru. She can be found running Young Scientist sessions, birthday parties, giving exhibit tours, and planning programs. Sydney’s favourite part of the job is learning about science every day and interacting with people from around the community.


Sarah Au, Events Manager

Sarah has worked in event planning, weddings, and decorating for several years and now applies her talents to our weddings, conferences, parties, and more! Sarah studied Business Management and Marketing at CONA and holds a Diploma in Event Management from Holland College. Sarah helps our guests organize and plan details of their events. Her favourite part of her work here is seeing events come together from start to finish.


Justin Smith, Events Lead

Justin leads the set-up and logistics of events and ensures everything is running smoothly for our guests. Justin enjoys the variety of events we host, and interacting with all of our guests.



Stuart Crosbie, Facilities & Trails Coordinator

Stuart joined the team in 2015 and has an extensive background in trail building and development, having worked for the East Coast Trail Association and with the CBS Parks Commission as well. Stuart has completed Chainsaw Certification, WHMIS, Fall Arrest, and has many years of experience with heavy machinery having worked at both Quidi Vidi Brewery and the NL Liquor Corporation maintaining brewing and production equipment.
