Come explore Manuels River with us! Guided River Tours (hikes) are included with your admission to Manuels River Hibernia Interpretation Centre. Whether you’re from near or far, you are sure to learn something interesting and experience a great time outside on our trails. Hikes focus on the local geology, biology, and cultural history of the Manuels River. Tours run along the upstream trail and the downstream trail and are generally around 1 hour, depending on the interest of the group – we are happy to adjust to your preferences as to the length of the hike.
During the summer months of July and August, guided trail hikes run:
- 7 Days a week at 1 pm & 3 pm;
- Guided hikes are available upon request Monday – Friday in the fall, winter and spring. For more information on booking a guided hike please contact email@example.com or call (709)834-2099 ex 203 or 204
On the upstream tour you will learn about the ancient volcano that once rose 3 km above the surface; the glacier that carved the present day valley; different plants that grow along the river; and the people that once lived there.
On the downstream tour you will learn about the ancient beach and sea that formed the rocks; the ancient animals that lived beneath the sea; and the plants and animals that now call the river valley home. For those that want a longer tour we can hike all the way down to the beach and learn about present day beach processes.
We are happy to run tours in French whenever possible, please contact us ahead of time to ensure that our French-speaking staff are available that day.
We will do our best to provide trail tours to walk-in weekday visitors during the fall, winter, and spring but due to our ongoing educational programming and trail conditions, we cannot always guarantee trail tour availability during the week days if they are not scheduled in advance. Hikes are weather dependent and may be cancelled without notice.
For large groups or fall/winter/spring weekdays, please book your tour in advance by emailing firstname.lastname@example.org or calling (709) 834-2099 ext. 203 or ext. 204
