June at Manuels River

THUR, June 21, 7:30pm: Four Seasons Summer Solstice Concert. Come celebrate the warmth of summer at Manuels River with a performance of the Summer Movements from Vivaldi’s Four Seasons and other sunshine inspired selections by the Young Virtuosi of the Suzuki Talent Education Program, along with special guests the Newfound Sound Barbershop Chorus.  This event is the second in a series of seasonal concerts. Tickets available at the door or by calling 834-2099 ext. 206 to reserve a spot in advance.  $15 + HST per adult, $8 + HST per youth/senior/student. 

FRI, June 22, 8pm: Karaoke Night. Come on by Manuels River and bring your friends for our first ever Karaoke Night! Hundreds of songs to choose from and drink specials all night, just in case you need some liquid courage! Tickets will be sold at the door or reserve yours in advance by calling 834-2099 ext. 206. Bar service will be available, this is a 19+ event, valid ID required. All tickets are non-refundable.

WED, June 27, 3:30pm: Afterschool Movie: Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (2014, PG, 101min).  Join us for a movie in our comfortable theatre. We’ll provide the popcorn! Screening is $5 per person or free for members. No pre-registration required. Children under 11 years old must attend with a parent/guardian.

THUR, June 28, 7pm: Dinner & A Movie. Date night? Girls’ night? or just a fun night out? We’ve got you covered at Manuels River! Enjoy a delicious three-course dinner by Coffee Matters followed by a movie in our state of the art Theatre. Vote for the movie you want to see on our Facebook event page! Tickets are just $30+HST and must be purchased in advance by Tuesday, June 26 at 5pm. Call 834-2099 ext. 206 to reserve your spot. Bar service will be available, this is a 19+ event, valid ID required. All tickets are non-refundable.

Daily from MON, June 25 onward, 10:30am and 2pm. Guided Fossil Site Visits.  Join us on a walk backwards through time, to an age when trilobites dominated the seas.  Our Guided Fossil Site Visit leads downstream from the Manuels River Hibernia Interpretation Centre, exploring the natural history along the way, and ends at a 500 million year old fossil locality.  There we will investigate the natural rock fall and look for the fossilized remains of the trilobites, brachiopods and other animals that lived in the shallow sea which covered this area half a billion years ago.  $15 (HST included) adult, $9 (HST included) student/senior/youth.  Admission to exhibits and related programs included. Weathering permitting.

Ongoing in June: Summer Science Camp Registration. Weekly camps for children aged 5 to 7 year olds and 8 to 11 year olds (alternating weeks over the summer).  More details and registration forms available on our website. 

 

July at Manuels River

Daily, 10:30am and 2pm. Guided Fossil Site Visits.  Join us on a walk backwards through time, to an age when trilobites dominated the seas.  Our Guided Fossil Site Visit leads down the Ocean Trail from the Manuels River Hibernia Interpretation Centre, exploring the natural history along the way, and ends at a 500 million year old fossil locality.  There we will investigate the natural rock fall and look for the fossilized remains of the trilobites, brachiopods and other animals that lived in the shallow sea which covered this area half a billion years ago. $15 adult, $9 student/senior/youth.  Admission to exhibits and related programs included. Weather permitting.

Every Monday, 1 – 4pm Giant Floor Map. Come see our giant 8m x 11m floor map of Newfoundland and Labrador. Join our interpreters as they show you around our province with a scavenger hunt and other map related educational games. A great afternoon for explorers young and old. Included with admission to the exhibits.

Every Tuesday, 11am – 2pm Lunch Unplugged. Come experience a taste of Newfoundland culture with local singers, musicians, songwriters and storytellers while enjoying a locally inspired lunch from our café. Free with purchase of lunch from the Coffee Matters Café.

Every Wednesday, 2 – 4pm Wacky Science Wednesdays. Join our science interpreters in the exhibits as they share with your some of our wackiest science experiments including making your own slime, pop your top, hair-standing science and more! These science demos are included with admission to the exhibits.

Every Thursday, 7 pm, Campfire Sing-A-Long Come join us for a campfire on the river. There will be songs, stories and marshmallows for roasting.  Free event by donation only. Weather permitting. To ensure the campfire is going ahead please call the day of at 834-2099 ext. 206.

Every Friday, 2 – 4 pm, Fossil Fridays. Join our resident palaeontologist Dr Rod Taylor in our exhibits as he shows you even more cool fossils in our fossil touch tank. There will also be fossil-related activities and crafts. Included with the price of admission to the exhibits.

THUR, July 5, 7 – 9:30 pm, 80’s Trivia Night. Put on your favourite pair of legwarmers or acid washed jeans and motor on down to Manuels River for our rad 80’s Trivia Night! There will be prizes, snacks and bar service available. Pre-registration is recommended for this event, maximum of six people per team, tickets are $10+HST per person and can be purchased by calling 834-2099 ext. 206. This is a 19+ event, valid ID required. All tickets are non-refundable.

SAT, July 7, 12 – 3:30 pm, 28th Annual Bobber Day and Kids Carnival. Spring is in the air and Bobber Day is fast approaching! Join us on the river for the Bobber Races and Kids Carnival. Corporate Bobber Race starts at 2:00 and the Community Bobber Race starts at 2:30. The Kids Carnival has games of chance and activities for kids of all ages and is on from 12 – 3:30 pm. Transportation from Villa Nova Junior High parking lot will be provided by Parsons & Sons. Visit bobberrace.ca, visit a local retailer or call 834-2099 ext. 206 to purchase tickets.

TUES, July 10 and TUES, July 17, 7 pm: Twilight Fairy Door Tours. All ages will enjoy this enchanted woodland walk. Visit whimsical fairy, elf & gnome doors scattered along a picturesque nature trail, learn about our local fairy lore, or mail a letter in the fairy mailbox. Fairy story time will conclude this enchanted adventure! Pre-registration required. Space is limited. Call 834-2099 ext 206 to reserve a spot. $10 per person. Weather permitting. 

TUES, July 10th, 6:30 pm Beekeeping Workshop Join the Newfoundland Beekeepers Association as they do a presentation on the important role bees play in our province and ways in which you can help bring bees to your garden. Pre-registration is required. $10+HST

SAT, July 14, 8:30-10am: Discover the birds of Manuels River Guided Hikes. Go on an outdoor adventure along an ancient volcanic river valley and get familiar with the amazing boreal forest bird life that call Manuels River home.  Perhaps you’ll meet inquisitive Boreal Chickadees, colourful Belted Kingfishers, and clever Ravens. Medium difficulty hike (some stairs and hills, but level trails). Bring your own binoculars or borrow a pair from us and please wear hiking boots. Workshop offered in partnership with Corthylio Conservation. Pre-registration required. Call 834-2099 ext. 206 to reserve a spot. $12.50+HST per person.

TUES, Jul. 31, 7pm, Regatta Roulette. Come dance the night away with Fahrenheit at the Manuels River Hibernia Interpretation Centre. Doors open at 7pm and the band starts at 8pm. It’s the perfect way to start the Regatta holiday. Tickets are $10+HST and can be purchased in advance or at the door. More details coming soon!
