October at Manuels River

Thursday, Oct. 4, 7pm: The Walking Dead Trivia Night. Gather your best defenses against the walkers and join us for The Walking Dead Trivia Night at Manuels River! There will be prizes, snacks and bar service available. Pre-registration is recommended for this event, maximum of 6 people per team, tickets are $10+HST per person and can be purchased by calling 834-2099 ext. 206. This is a 19+ event, valid ID required. All tickets are non-refundable.

Friday, Oct. 5, 2:30-4:30pm and Saturday, Oct. 6, 10:30-12:30pm: Young Scientist: Harvest. It’s the time of year to reap what we have sowed, so… let’s play with our food! Join us as we experiment with some common food items and learn about where our food comes from too. No pre-registration required. Parent or guardian must attend with children. This program is designed for children aged 4 to 7 years old. NEW! Young Scientists that attend 5 programs earn their Level 1 Young Scientist crest.

Sunday, Oct. 7, 21, Nov. 4, 25, Dec. 9, 2-3:30pm: Coding Club (5 sessions). Offered in partnership with Kids Code Jeunesse, kids will learn basic concepts of coding and computational thinking through fun, collaborative, exercises using Scratch and Micro:bits. Free. This program is designed for children aged 7 to 11 years old. Pre-registration required and space is limited. Call 834-2099 ext. 206 to reserve a spot.  Please Note: You will need your own laptop.

Monday, Oct. 8, 2pm: Thanksgiving Family Friendly Fossil Hike. Head out for a fun and informative hike along the trails to our protected fossil site.  The hike is approximately 1.5 hours and is offered free or by donation. No pre-registration required. Included with the price of admission. Weather permitting.

Wednesday, Oct. 10, 10-11am: Little Explorers. Come along for an engaging and interactive hour of stories, songs, activities and play, as we learn about the world around us. $7 per child or free with membership (parent(s) or guardian(s) free). No pre-registration required. This program is designed for children 2 to 4 years old and their caregivers.  NEW! Little Explorers earn a sticker every time they attend and work towards a special sticker after 5 programs.

Saturday Oct. 13, 9:30am-5pm: Fall Frenzy Sale. 20% off everything in the Manuels River Gift Store, with the exception of already marked-down items. Members receive an additional 10% discount.

Sunday, Oct. 14, 2-3:30pm: Palaeontology Club: Wipe-Out: End-Permian Mass Extinction. Come join palaeontologist Dr. Rod Taylor for an interactive session about the history of life on Earth. We’ll talk about how fossils form, and look at some of the organisms that have been preserved over the past 700 million years.  $7 per participant. No pre-registration required. Parent/guardian may attend, but are not required.  This program is designed for children aged 7 to 11 years old. NEW! Palaeontology Club members that attend 3 programs earn their Slate Palaeontology Club crest.

Friday, Oct. 19, 2:30-4:30pm and Saturday, Oct. 20, 10:30-12:30pm: Young Scientist: Got A Bone To Pick? Let your backbone slide on over to Manuels River to bone up on vertebrates and their spooky skeletons. $7 per participant. No pre-registration required. Parent or guardian must attend with children. This program is designed for children aged 4 to 7 years old.  NEW! Young Scientists that attend 5 programs earn their Level 1 Young Scientist crest.

Sunday, Oct. 21, 9:00am-12pm Giv’er on the River. Join us for the 6th annual Giv’er on the River Fun Run! There will be a 3km run, 3km walk, 5km run and 10km run. For registration and more information online via the runningroom.com

Tuesday to Thursday, Oct. 23, 24, 25, 6:30-7pm, 6:45-7:15pm: HAUNTED HIKE for Families with Younger Children. Get into the Halloween spirit along the Manuels River Trails with child-friendly spooky stories and some not-so-creepy creatures. Pre-registration required. Space is limited. Call 834-2099 ext 206 to reserve a spot. $7 per person. Weather permitting.

Tuesday to Thursday, Oct. 23, 24, 25, 7-8pm, 7:20-8:20pm, 7:40-8:40pm, 8-9pm: HAUNTED HIKE.  New Stories! New Scares! Watch out and stay sharp as you join us along the trail for spine tingling tales, creepy creatures and spooky sights. Pre-registration required. Space is limited. Thursday, Oct. 25, 7pm: Dinner & A Movie. Date night? girls’ night? or just a fun night out? We’ve got you covered at Manuels River, enjoy a delicious three-course dinner by Coffee Matters followed by a movie in our state of the art Theatre. Vote for the movie you want featured on our Facebook event page! Tickets are just $30+HST, and must be purchased in advance by October 23. Call 834-2099 ext. 206 to reserve your spot. Bar service will be available, this is a 19+ event, valid ID required. All tickets are non-refundable.

Sunday, Oct. 28, 2-3:30 pm: Halloween Harry Potter LEGO Event. Come as your favourite Harry Potter character and get ready for a challenging Harry Potter LEGO build with Bricks 4 Kidz. This program is designed for children aged 7 to 11 years old. Pre-registration required. Space is limited. Call 834-2099 ext 206 to reserve a spot. $13 per person. Costumes encouraged but not required.
