Sat. April 4th: Family Fun Day – Easter Hunt 1-3pm

Join our interpreters for an easter egg scavenger hunt on our trails, following clues along the way! Please dress children warmly. In the case of inclement weather, this event will be held indoors. Included with the price of admission (or with a membership), no pre-registration needed. Parents must stay with their children during this program.

Sun. April 19th, 2-4:30pm: Arts & Culture Day. Theme: The Poet and the Painter

Join us, along with our special guests, Tom Dawe and Gerald Squires, for tea, coffee and desserts as we indulge in an afternoon of poetry and painting.

May 2015

Fri. May 8th, 1-3pm & Sat. May 9th, 10:30am – 12:30pm: Young Scientist: Rivers & Streams!

Our Young Scientist series is all about fun hands-on activities, crafts, games, and hikes for kids, following a different theme each session! In this session, learn about rivers and streams with our new interactive exhibit. This program is led by our science interpreters and aimed at ages 3 to 10 but all ages are welcome.  Parents must stay with their children during this program. There’s always the potential to head outdoors for a hike, so please dress children warmly if you’re interested in that option. No pre-registration needed, free with admission or membership.

Sun. May 10th, 11 am – 2pm: Mother’s Day at Manuels River

Join us in our Reception Hall to celebrate Mother’s Day! Brunch buffet with waffle station, complimentary flower and mimosa for Mom, mini-spa for pampering mom, and family activities in our exhibits. Please call 834 2099 ext. 206 for reservations before Friday May 8th. Tickets are $35 for adults, $15 for children, $5 for age 5 & under (plus HST) and we can accept all forms of payment in person as well as credit cards over the phone.

Sun. May 17th: Family Fun Day: Spring Has Sprung! (1-3pm)

Join us outdoors for games and activities to celebrate the slightly warmer weather! An active and fun afternoon for the whole family. No pre-registration needed, free with admission or membership.

 

Fri. May 22nd, 1-3pm & Sat. May 23rd, 10:30am – 12:30pm: Young Scientist: Spring Science

Our Young Scientist series is all about fun hands-on activities, crafts, games, and hikes for kids, following a different theme each session! In this session, celebrate the arrival of spring with fun science experiments! Please note that this program will be outside, so please dress children warmly – in the case of severe weather, it will be postponed to the next week. This program is led by our science interpreters and aimed at ages 3 to 10 but all ages are welcome. Parents must stay with their children during this program. No pre-registration needed, free with admission or membership.

Sun. May 24th, 12 noon – 5 pm: Arts & Culture Day

Refresh your home this spring with an original painting from a local artist. Featuring the “Creative Spirits”, including Rhonda Manning, Florence Power, Stephanie Power, and Melinda McCarthy, who will exhibit acrylic painting and other media. Art will be available for purchase and part of the proceeds go to support the Centre.

Our Young Scientist series is all about fun hands-on activities, crafts, games, and hikes for kids, following a different theme each session! In this session, celebrate World Oceans Day at the beach at Worsley Park, 52 Worsley Drive, Town of CBS. This program is led by our science interpreters and aimed at ages 3 to 10. Parents must stay with their children during this program. This is an outdoor program, so please dress children warmly. No pre-registration needed, free program.

Saturday, June 6th, 12:30-4pm: Worsley Park Community Beach Cleanup!

Join us at Worsley Park for a community beach cleanup with Ocean Quest to celebrate World Oceans Day! Meet a scuba diver and some cool sea creatures too. Free event, snacks and refreshments provided.

The environment is baby and toddler-friendly with lower sound, changing tables, toys, and snacks provided, and other understanding parents around as you watch the film! Never been geocaching before? It’s a fun outdoor adventure that’s easy to learn! Come try geocaching with our interpreters to find the secret ‘caches’ found all along our river trails. Friday, July 3: 2nd Anniversary/Doxi’s Birthday Celebrations (12 noon-4pm)

Manuels River Hibernia Interpretation Centre opened two years ago! Come celebrate our anniversary and the 2nd birthday of our beloved trilobite mascot, Doxi! Guided hikes along our river trails available at 1pm & 3pm. Fossil activities and games for kids included with admission, free cake or cookies & refreshments and photo opportunities with our new mascot! Cake cutting with our mascot at 2pm.

Saturday, July 4: 25th Annual Bobber Race

Join us for a fun day as we celebrate our fundraising Bobber Race, a 25-year tradition in Conception Bay South! Kids Carnival (noon to 3 pm), Corporate Bobber Race (2 pm),   Bobber Race (2:30 pm) with $2,500 first prize.  Kids Carnival at Manuels River Hibernia Interpretation Centre, Bobber races on the River just below the Manuels Bridge.  Parking at nearby Villanova Junior High.  In the event of a storm, events will be postponed until noon on Sunday.

Saturday, July 18: Open public trilobite talk! Trilobites & Other Fossils: The Stories Told by the Shales of CBS

Join the Geological Association of Canada, NL chapter (GAC-NL) for a fun afternoon exploring trilobites!

1-2pm Free public lecture “Trilobites & Other Fossils: The Stories Told by the Shales of CBS” by Greg Froude, local geologist. Greg has a long history of digging for trilobites and other fossils and contributed fossils to the Manuels River Hibernia Interpretation Centre’s exhibits as well.

2-3pm Tour of the exhibits – admission fees apply for the public, free for GAC-NL members!

In this session, become a paleontologist for the afternoon! Learn about all different types of fossils and dig up your own mini ancient creature. This program is led by our science interpreters and aimed at ages 3 to 10 but all ages are welcome. Parents must stay with their children during this program. No pre-registration needed, free with admission or membership.

Saturday, August 1: Paleontology Afternoon! Dig & Talk (1:30pm, 4pm)

Join us for a fun fossil experience!

1:30pm: Meet at the Centre in the front lobby to join up with our researchers Anne and Gregor! We will head outside together to look for some fossils with them. Please dress for the weather with proper footwear and bring a vehicle to access the site. In case of rain, we will hold a similar event indoors. This portion of the afternoon is best suited for children 7 and over and will run until approximately 3pm.

4pm: Anne and Gregor will give a free public lecture about their research and the 175-year history of geological research at Manuels River. Please feel free to attend the talk even if you can’t make the dig, everyone is welcome! Snacks & refreshments provided!
